WHAT DO WE MAKE OF OUR LOWEST MOMENTS; THE BEST, OR PRAY IT NOT COME?
I saw a movie the other day, the main actor had been through hell and back trying to find his footing, fend for himself and his impatient girlfriend who was increasingly growing weary from picking his bills, as well as establish himself financially. He hit rock bottom, when his lifesaver (his loving girlfriend) stopped being considerate towards him by denying him basics like food and her generous stipends. Then did the rashness of his reality fully hit home, the helplessness of his existence dawned on him. His helpline was currently unavailable, he cried himself to sleep, sleep denied him too, he grew weary with deep thinking, ladened with heavy, agonising thoughts. In those moments of the dimmest light, of the harrowing lengths of dark shadows, he was fully broken and left unsheathed. However, in that deadened state, he gathered himself together, figured a way out of his living mess and with time gloriously ascended into affluence and wealth and the narrative changed. This is a subtle instance to nerve wrecking problems people encounter.
A good number of us, have in different situations, in different intensities, encountered problems that left the essence of our beings completely drained. The plot changer; happy ending determinant is what we make out of the lemon that life has turned, a lemonade? or if you were Nigerian Igbo like me, what you make out of that bitter leaf (onugbo), a nice, spicy, bottom pot onugbo soup?. What propels the dynamism from a tragic plot to a happily ever after ending is the inward desire and drive to never give up on yourself, regardless of what life throws at you, to call the shots exclusively for what life leaves you as; NEVER BROKEN. This would give credence to the saying; "After the clouds, comes the silver lining". This could be because there is something about the depths of agony and pain that transforms us, deadens our weak selves and moulds us into a death-defying new creature willing to break bounds and rise above all odds each day!, only if we permit ourselves to.
In some instances, the worst situations have made the best kind of individuals, yielding the most excellent results; the record breaking successes, discoveries and innovations.
Oprah Winfrey is a phenomenal example of a strong decision not to let your woes and throes determine you. Despite been sexually abused through childhood and early teenagehood, she took the sole decision not to let her abuse rob her more than her infancy and took charge of her adult story with all tenacity. The world has been up for her grabs since then as she holds many world-class titles today.
Ben Carson raised in poverty by a poor single mum, rose above all odds above his disadvantageous situation and today is one of the most renowned doctors with record breaking surgeries to his credit. The list goes on and on even in our different local environments. Just like these icons, who had the dark phases of their lives; living truly became intentional, groundbreaking and the only decision to make.
If that is the case, can we hence be open-minded to trials and pains to unveil and unearth the raw, unharnessed, unexplored potentials in us or do we live it mostly beautiful and probably never get the chance to see the darest of us?.
